Seeking Kiteboarding Olympic Hopefuls for Paris 2024
- ika 4.jpg (20.34 KiB) Viewed 1698 times
In May 2018, Kiteboarding was approved for Olympic debut at Paris 2024. As the venue, Marseille promises excellent conditions.
But here's the recent scuttlebutt: At 2018, there’s a shortage of elite-level female kiteboarding athletes with sights on 2024.
This is where you can help. Spread the word: If you know an up-and-coming, ocean-loving female athlete:
1. Encourage her to take up Olympic Class Kiteboarding, and
2. Encourage her to direct questions to her National Governing Body for the sport of sailing. In the U.S., that's the
United States Sailing Association.
Spread the word - Kiteboarding could be her ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Shouldn't be the other way around? Shouldn't Olympics be the maximum expression of an already existing and well developed discipline? And not the cause or motivation to develop a sport?
Anyways, happy to see that kiteboarding may go olympic.

And if you are in the United Kingdom the Olympic athlete development is being done by British Kitesports British Sailing.
There is a particular focus on identifying female athletes with talent/ambition as they are currently under-represented in the sport. Details here:

the ioc put an emphasis on gender equality becoming 50/50 for new olympic sports, so lets choose a sport where there are many countries where there no female participants at all and where world championships have had a 10:1 ration or more, often just a handfull of female competitors from all the world.
Also the criteria considers the long term history of youth participation in previous world championships of the particular events of which has only happened very recently.
To qualify for the youth olympics( female), you just had to simply complete the course.
the ioc either talk big without results, or someone is pulling the wool over their eyes
Everyone knows foil racing is super niche within kiteboarding and that it is dominated by males and the average age of a foiler is 53 years old due to affordability( another important critera says IOC to help third world country participation of which there is almost none)
You know something untoward is going on when you have to advertise for female competitors for an olympic event.

This is a great opportunity for young female kiters (and males, too). I hope that many eager young women focus their skills on this event for the benefit of the sport and, more importantly, for their personal futures. Thanks for posting.

1) If you think sailing gives a single shit about affordability, then you have no idea what boats costs. Google "what does a 49er cost?" and make sure you don't have any liquid in your mouth when you look at the answer because you'll spray your monitor. It's like $27k just for the sails and rigging on an Olympic campaign boat, let alone the hull and blades which could easily double to triple that if you consider that most small Olympic programs buy 3-5 boats for practice and training.
2) How do you know there won't be a unisex fleet? 6 years is plenty of time to create a level playing field if we start now. You could not have any idea how to kiteboard as of this morning and get an Olympic berth if you started now. I think that's amazing, I think that democratizes the Olympics massively. Are you near a beach that gets 8+ knots of wind? You could be on an Olympic podium in 6 years. That's rad.
3) Can we start a petition to change your username to "darkraincloud?" You seem to come into every Olympic thread and take a hot shit on the whole concept.

A few of the most important criteria that IOC have for new sports, ones they have been talking about in the media.
Affordability to enable third world country participation? no
Demonstrate historical youth world championship participation? no
50/50 gender mix? no
its iocs words, not mine. They actually threatened to remove sailing completely before the kite vote as a warning shot to sailing.
Kitefoil racing is a very small niche of a niche sport, there are plenty of sports that match the criteria more than kite foil racing, try any other discipline of kiteboarding for starters, or sup racing for example.
An advert seeking olympic hopefuls goes against the IOCs own criteria of new sports being popular for youth and female participants in particular.
You see $23 000 boats for comparison, i see failed opportunity for other sports with good affordability, gender equality, and ones that already have huge participation, not ones that are a niche of a niche. One which most people on earth ( particularly the ones not in the richest countries) would consider use very expensive high tech equipment.
IOC have a lot to answer for.
