3rd to 5th of November Qualifier Championships
6th to 10th of November Elite Championships

Round two of the World Kiteboarding Championships will be landing in Dakhla, Morocco this week. The top freestyle kiteboarders from all over the World are set to battle it out for the World Champion titles at this famous kite spot known for reliable wind and warm weather throughout the year. Dakhla Spirit will be hosting this grand event.

There will be two events during the week, commencing with the Qualifier Championship. This 3 day event will be an opportunity for athletes who are not yet qualified for the Elite Championship to have a chance to qualify for 2019. The Moroccan athlete who ranks highest during this event will win the Wild Card entry to the Elite Championship.

So far there are 25 men and 8 women registered for this event, of 6 different nationalities. The format remains identical to that used for the Elite, and judges will be using the same criteria for these up and coming athletes.

The second event of the week will be the Elite Championship. Here we will see the top 24 male and 10 female freestyle kiteboarders fight their way up the rankings, aiming for that much sought after World Title. Brazilian favourites Carlos Mario and Mikaili Sol are coming fresh off the win from Akyaka, Turkey, but will they be able to hold on to their lead?

The new generation will be there to once again prove their worth, such as Valentin Rodriguez from Colombia, Swiss rider Maxime Chabloz, or Dominican athlete Adeuri Corniel. Former World Champion Youri Zoon will also be there to fight his way into the finals.

The women’s division will see two new names competing, Osaia Reding and Pippa van Irsel, and they will come up against the more established athletes like Paula Novotna from the Czech Republic and Rita Arnaus from Spain.

The forecast for the coming week looks very positive, so you can expect plenty of action each day of the event. The live stream will be running as from the 6th of November for the Elite Event, and will once again be hosted by Bas Koole.
