RAM air kite bar settings

Postby rom5333 » Wed Nov 07, 2018 11:57 am

Hello everyone,

After a small bit of advice. I'm making a racing bar and just wanted verify a few things:

1.) Is it like with inflatable kites such that we are looking for full power when sheeted in and all lines are equal lengths?

2.) Is it correct that in general the travel on the bar sheet in and out is greater than on a standard inflatable kite?

Thanks for any clarification on this.

1) Yes. But some like when kite backstalls when fully sheeted in - some don't. And whether it does depends on how high the wind speed is.

2) No. Kite size and AR (chord length) have an effect on how long sheeting range is needed. Wider bar is often good for foils to compensate their bigger wingspan and lower turning speed.

Another question..

say a 12m foil kite 20m lines - if you were to use 15 or 10m lines, how much would it deform the kite and pull in the wingtips ? Will it change the lift ratio much ?

The more kite has wingspan more it deforms when flying lines are shortened. Bridle design affects also, how much there is tow point separation. Deformation is more like a fold in the center of the kite, not especially pulling down in the wingtips.

I had once 3m lines on 6m foil kite, it was still flyable.
