Sal and Kite beach

Postby Kiteus Polaris » Sat Dec 01, 2018 4:36 pm

Question for anyone who has been to Sal recently: Just to be sure. You don’t have to pay any access fee at Kite beach on Sal do you? I guess only if you need storage at the kite center?
One more thing. Do you ever kite at the beach on the Santa Maria side or is it just gusty? Any fee on that (south) side?

At least last Saturday all beaches on Sal were free, not sure about now :)
But there is a possibility you will pay extra fee to a rental company for breaking a car while driving to Ali Baba or Serra Negra spots :)

Santa Maria beach is usually offshore and gusty. Avoid.

Do I need my own pump or can you buy compressor air or similar while there, please? And what's the cost?

Thanks for your answer!
Ouch that sucks! I hope it was almost worth it and those spots were really nice! (Were they? Waves?)
I will go with my gf who is not so used to big waves so then I guess it is kite beach that is the only good place? Are there any ok waves? I will bring a waveboard.
Btw, can you manage with just a shorty or do you need a full suit?

When I asked the kite center about cost for storage (forgot to ask if there was any entrance fee but there obviously isn’t according to answer above) the price I got was €140 for a week. Seems a bit steep but hotel transfer is included. A bit expensive way for you to get access to a pump...

Thanks! What do you think of kite beach? (Is Shark bay the correct name?) Any other suggestions?

Really depends, but sometimes you can find OK waves there (everything is relative)...

Again, depends on your cold tolerance. I would wear full 3/2mm, but I like to be on warmer side (and have full sun protection).

Also you should understand that the island is SMALL - you can get from any (reasonable) kite spot to any other one maximum in 30 mins

Great inputs. Thanks!
