What would you choose: SS Zeppelin / WT 137?!?!

Postby Guest » Mon Feb 17, 2003 5:36 pm

If you could buy a WT 137 (2002) for €580 or a Slingshot Zeppelin (2002) for €450 (both new boards), what would you choose??

==============================================
BTW I'm weighing only 60 kg, riding choppy water, using 9,4m2 projected kite, want to ride in 5/6 Beaufort -> what would you choose then?

WT without doubt! You must take a look at newer "small" wavetrays. New 03 kites doen't need big boards, just fast small ones.
The zeppeling has lots of rocker by today standards. They dont't perform well at the lower end.

I have a WT and love it. I ride flat water (no chop) or the ocean. I have not ridden the slingshot so I can't comment on that but check out this thread on boards for chop from another WT rider.
phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=4881&highlight=
... HanaCrew boards.
I'm sure there are enough SS riders out there that someone will jump in here with some feedback.

Yeah, what about durability.

I can hit a rock and still have a great kiteday, whereas with a WT it's most probably end of the day.

All I heard the WT must be great but the the Zeppelin is great too.

So what you should do is arrange a way to test them in practise.

I rode an SS last year and I was impressed right away and got one myself. (I used a couple of other boards before also, but not the WT)

Looking to find a difference I'd say durability is one.

So if you can't get a testride, you should name what you want from a board. People owning WT's and SS's can name pros and cons.

A Zeppelin can handle chop very well and is a blast in 5/6 bft

Frankly I think you can't go wrong with both. Want real durability=Zeppelin
So guys what would be a real pro of the WT compared to the Zep.

GOOD POINTS BY sAKE
I've been riding a Zep for six month and love it in all powered conditions.
Have also given it a beating over rocks shells oysters PVC rails etc and its still going strong.
I have riden 132, 142 and 147 wave trays and can't say I liked any of them. Although if they lasted long enough I'm sure I'd would learn to like them. Fortunately I don't have to.

all the slingshots were very slow and heavy to ride boards, not heavy in weight terms. they were over finned and the footstraps came out, see that whingers, thats past tense.

the wavetray isn't exactly bulletproof but the kind of damage you'll do is only scraping the paint of the egdes and bottom, and they are easy to cover with filler.

the wavetray will give more bottom end the slingshot more top end and the wavetray will be more forgiving for learning new tricks as it is less finned and wont throw you off.

The first thing you say is all about userpreference. Slow and heavy to ride is what you think of it (compared to the WT I guess)
Your "slow" is what I like instead of bouncing "out of control" as being the opposite. Therefore I said to him to get a testride.

And guys, don't get the perception "slow and heavy" is riding a 5mph and having to use your full bodyweight to make a turn ;)
