I hear you. I love spending some time just zoned out in some good tunes and building stuff. I wish I had the talent to shape it all by hand -- unfortunately it would end up looking like something a 5 year old would bring in from the shop
Can't wait to get my board decorated and get out on it!
I finished plyboard Alaia with Waterlust shape.
I recomend Waterlust shape to anyone without any experience shaping an Alaia. It works very well!
In my first try I got way too much flex. When I gained some speed on the chop, the board started to woble like a dolphin, with nose bending down and back up, diving under water, when bent down and loosing a lot of speed (and spraying).
I added two 12 mm thick, 30 mm wide plyboard (balsa center, oukume top) strips along the rails on top.
Now the flex is perfect. I had it out yesterday. Such a nice ride. It goes upwind so well, I still can not believe it (no fins).
We had low tide, when I started, so the water was totaly flat and I managed to make 3 or 4 perfect jibes (still learning).
It is perfect low tide/wind mashine. No problem riding in grassy fields which would be a problem with fins on a board.
I never did a skim, and now I am sure, I will never do. Alaia is so much fun.
LOL! There's not enough space in Slo to unwind the lines
This is one of the closest spots, Fossalon di Grado, It
I don't remember so low tide when I was in Piran. I've met a lot of Slo riders from LJ in Bali. They were saying would be better off going to Neretva or Orebic, even Bol.

Anyways, nice board man.
There's deep water in Piran. You have these shallows in Italy, starting near Trieste (Soča river mouth) thowards Venice. It is more than 1 km wide and "endless" up or downwind. Water level was even lower due to the full moon. We had some great mirror sessions
I like this strapless Alaia riding very much. I must bragg, about 80% off my jibes are totaly perfect, and I crash in about 10%. Already feeling very comfortable riding it!
