After all this talk I think I might just give it an extra thick glass job and look for a padding that provides extra strength and hope the stringer provides enough strength. The plan is to load it up with kites, boards, sandwhiches, root beer and an anchor, SUP-kite for destinations unknown when it is nuking and then unpack anchor and ride the twin tip or surfboard. I'm gonna load it up like a winnebago.

So just to beat this horse a bit longer...
US Blanks?
you never mentioned the foam or density?
what glass schedule did you originally have in mind?

swaylocks is a much better place to ask these questions
more attitude than here, but you usually get good answers.

someone had it in a garage never used it and gave it to me, usblanks 12'6 I think they only make one density for that size. I think I have enough ideas to start getting my fin box and accessoriesI was gonna go with a pretty heavy glass schedule recommend a particular weight if you want

YEA -- do NOT use any Glass, if you want it Strong ---AND--- Light !!

If ya haven't shaped the blank yet then :
you said it had a stringer already in the blank ? --- you can make
two more if you measure from the existing one to 1/2 way to your rails
then make a line, and cut the blank from top to bottom Full length
and glue it back together again with + - 45deg stitched carbon or
even a thin marine ply , or balsa, or plane weave carbon on the 45.

OR
shape it first, then cut it and glue it back together with the carbon ; that
way you don't breath the carbon when shaping it. Now a light woven product
can be wrapped an inch over the deck top & bottom to help insure
you never get a Delam, it ties the skins together.

After shaping use the stitched carbon bottom & top for your skins ; but place
50K uni or a stitched uni on the top & bottom of each stinger , ((first)).

Use Epoxy ...

that's the way i would do it --- it's worth the little extra you will pay in materials .

Thanks Bille. I've thought about using exotic materials and decided to keep it inexpensive because this is my first board and the chances of me botching something up are strong. What kind of glass schedule would you recommend?

if e-glass and 2lb EPS:
epoxy resin (unless the foam is PU, but use epoxy anyway)
-approx 10-12 oz glass , top and bottom
-full size deck patch of 6 oz
-4-6 oz fin patch
full wrap of all layers over the rails if you ever intend to use the paddle.
EVA deck pad.

if 1.5 lb foam , go to the high side of the above range (maybe more)
if s glass, go to the low side of the above range
if carbon, cut the numbers in half
if you use wood veneer on top (approx .05" thick) you can replace 6oz of glass while improving weight, and dents and overall strength.
no more striingers
no more plywood
no more channels
no more BS
stuff that really works

But if you dont want to do a science project, dont ask me, or BIllie and definitely not Frederick.
Ask people that have built more that 1 SUP what they recommend and why.

SWAYLOCKS
or a similar site where people bulid SUPs using similar materials.
