Undecided about Paulownia or foam? Ideas?

Using a belt sander is not easy but possible. Finishing with a orbit sander is a go.

Finishing my Paulownia top layer which will be scarf jointed with a bamboo core.

I got a similar setup to the pic above, uses bike chains and window winders ha. works a treat, the only bastard was finding a big enough router bit... found a 2 1/2in badboy in the end. I screw it down from below using stubby screws....usually fine but sometimes the router catches one or two down by the tips. Like has been said tho, it's f****** noisy, dusty and takes an age. Am contemplating rebuilding out of steel, everything i build out of mdf completely changes after a couple of weeks without use - f****** annoying!

Hi Bigdog,
it is quite stiff but also uber strong, i'm more of a wakeboarder than kiteboarder so the loads are slightly different. I designed mine to be ultra stiff in longitudinal bending and torsion between the bindings and getting more flexible towards the tip by reducing the layup in the tips.

Nice looking board mate, have you tried it behind the kite yet? What size rocker/concave you go with? Think i over done my latest one - 85mm rocker ha, forget to reset the 'over exaggerated' rocker table which i'd previously done a repair on! I really wanna start doing channels but i doesn't look a simple task.

142x440, 75 late rocker, 3 stage hybrid continuous with 10mm concave. The next board is going to have channels in the tail but not down the length.

No kite yet, but if someone wants to give it a blat then they are quite welcome

DU here is our profile table ... it will do twin tips , snowboards, anything that will fit between the rails... fully adjustable. Jim spent a lot of time building it and it works great with the vacuum table to hold the wood down..

Jim did a lot of work to get that all dialed in....nice!

I made a sled router thing that I never really liked. I found I could belt sander fast enough but messy as it all is.

Coiler snowbords which made JC Jays olympic boards swear by the belt sander.

I would rather get a bigass cnc table going if I ever get to the point I must reproduce in qty. These days not such a big expense either.

I want a board with stiff between feet and dampflex from there to tips. How to get that? I make boards with corecell foam. Wood is good for snowboards but for water apps not so much....IMO

About the channels, hm, all this setup is a prerequisite for channels.

The easiest to build them (no CNC), I think, would be exactly opposite of top layer with a wood strips. Only diff this "bottom" layer would go all the way. My top layer finishes a bit after footpads.

Than put the "core" (core is red) underneath and invert a vac table:) Convex table - no need to put anything under the profiled channels since they are on top now. The core is flat on vac table.

The "core" might be even tapered or scarfed on tips...

The one which suits your riding or a personal preference. I like wood appearance just I like wooden boats:)

I also like the idea of environmentally friendly boards. Epoxy has one of the highest carbon footprint on the Planet...
