Yes i know.

But it is still a striking difference. considering I reduced reinforcement and reduced core stiffness considerably.

I'm not surprised at all! Carbon is 3-5 x stiffer than glass so your 400gsm (total) is an rough equivalent of 1200-2000gsm of glass (yadda yadda assuming same weave, resin ratio etc etc....)

as D mentioned, stiffness is a function of depth ^3 so increasing just from a 5mm core to 7mm (allowing the same 1mm laminate thickness & material and ignoring core stiffness) you are increasing the stiffness of the board by 1.77x

the 5mm of concave, which i bet did not reduce thickness at all .
so overall, the area moment (I) of the cross section is larger than the b*h^3 term for a simple rectangular section.

Great work - board looks awesome and must be very rewarding to ride something you've made.

As for flex, I am in two minds, my carbon Mut has very little flex and powers well on the load phase of a boost. But I am being talked into a wood core (custom) mutant with more flex. Again this will be largely based on the 4'7 Pro. I will let you know how it progresses :D

Cheers men.

Another interesting feature than I didn't expect is the additional float over white wash. The old board (which was fairly heavy) would get sucked into the white wash when doing a floater. This one floats over the top super smooth.
I'm assuming its a function of the additional buoyancy that the foam provides? maybe its the slightly wider board? what ever it is I like it.

Yes

it's a foam. There is a catch with that and your carbon on top of it. If you leave your board on a sun for 30secs or more it will heat to more than 50C, leave for more and can bake an egg on top of it. This might kill bonding with epoxy.

That is why I would slap a veneer on top, or paint the top.

Well my temps are colder than yours downunder. I've never had a problem with my carbon skateboards and landboards delaminating. I've had my landboard out in the sun all day for 5 days in a row all!

I'm quite liking the peel ply finish on the top of the board. It means I can put my feet all over the board without slipping off. I rode some waves today, front foot in the strap, back foot by the fins.

It's not a heat, it is the Sun:)
And, your skateboard is not a foam board:0)

Trust me mate, 100C after 1min on a Sun, doesn't matter where on a Planet:) Your epoxy might melt on 100C. Just trying to help with a durability of your board. That's why me using a veneer on top...

Actually I do have a bamboo/foam/carbon skateboard.

Its my suitcase cruiser.

To be fair I haven't spent fast amounts of time out In the mid day sun with this board.
