Hello all, I am getting ready to vacuum bag my second board (Light wind board, like Spleen Door) and I intend to use carbon on both side...
I guess that home made logo and board measurement printed on rice paper will not be easily "readable" on the board if there is carbon fiber but what are your experiences??? Any suggestions or ideas are welcome as I would to have at least the board measurement in there...
Thanks
Dany

if you can find someone with a vinyl plotter get them to cut it out of vinyl for you and under lay under the cloth.
where are you from?

Hey Dany, on the carbon board I did this summer the rice paper did not come out very good. It seems to kill the reflective properties of the carbon cloth, so the whole paper thing is much more visible than on any fiberglass board I've done. Maybe something else went wrong with it, but my first impression is to not do rice papers with carbon, or at least not if you want parts of the paper to be clear.

the other thing you can do is do your board in the vacuum table press it . pull it out wet sand it . do a female cut of your logo and size you want . paint with a water base paint. then do a epoxy hot coat over it and buff once it is cured

Typically you rice paper under the glass. With carbon that is a no go.
I have contemplated gold or silver leaf. But am yet to try it.
Obviously painting and another layer of resin works.
I also have contemplated a pre-cured top sheet made of surfboard glass that is painted in reverse. But i haven't tried this either.

I should add that I had 4oz glass over the carbon, and my rice paper was between the two.

I read this on swaylocks, I haven't done it yet as most of my boards are painted so not sure how well it works, Sounds like it would work well. but would run it on a test piece first as it would likely have a dependency on the film type you use.
if you have access to a Kinkos or similar place with a color laser printer, you can print your logos backwards on overhead transparency film. lay the film on wet epoxy and squeegee out any air bubbles.
When the resin cures pull off the film and the image is left stuck to the resin then hot coat overtop."

Tkettlepoint.. Have you put vinyl under carbon before? Or did you mean on top of the carbon? I have access to a vinyl cutter and am getting ready to make my 1st carbon board. It would be sweet to have some kind if graphic on it. I have used rice paper and glass before. It looks really good after, but its a real pain to get all the air out from under large pieces.

Right on.. I wasnt planning on using any glass, you obviously have experiance with carbon boards.. Would you say a layer of glass on the outside is required? I was thinking possibly on the bottom to be alittle more hearty.
