My new board is finished and I am very pleased with it's low wind performance. I took the Slingshot glide as my inspiration and tweaked the length and width a tiny bit.
Measurements:
152.4cm x 40.6cm and just 2m rocker
Materials:
Baltic Birch 1/4" glued up two layers with PU glue
Spar Urethane rubbed on about 5 layers
Stainless Steel Tee Nut, Type 18-8, 10-24 Interior Thread, 9/32" L Barrel, 4 Prong
The making process:
Design done in Illustrator and printed out for transfer on to plywood. Cut out with jig saw and used belt sander to smooth outline. Top layer cut out smaller for better flex control and less weight. Glued up the two layers and propped up the ends for creating the rocker. Put lots of weights on top and used some clamps too to apply sufficient pressure. Used a belt sander to further tweak flex and reduce weight. The finish was done with Spar Urethane thinned about 20% with paint thinner to be able to rub on instead of painting. Much easier IMHO. Dried much better between coats too.
Ride:
I have only two short light wind sessions on it but I think this is going to be my favorite light wind weapon. I'll post updates once I test it a bit more.
