Cotton: Top and bottom?!?

Is it possible to put cotton on top and bottom prior to vac bag? I am not worried about adding weight as I am doing a small (5'6") kitesurf board which is on the tiny thickness side (10.5 cm corecell). I even have some carbon but planned to only use finerglass for added weight. Anybody tried cotton on both side with sucess? Thanks, Dany

I've never heard of anybody using cotton as a reinforcement.

What are you trying to achieve?

I think cotton is ment for design. I have done that, it works great. Try to find as thin fabric as possible, so you will not add to much waight. When I did that, I put a thin layer of glass on top of cotton, but I do not know if that is neceserry.

I am not an artist so adding cotton is for cosmetics purposes. It thought it would look great on the bottom of the board as well but I am not sure if it works or not. Like I said adding weight is not an issue as I am doing a short surfboard with 10.5 cm corecell so on the thin side which translate to a very light board and I fear that it will be blown away in stronger wind. Tks for your comments.

should work fine. They used to do this with surfboards back in the 70s - flowers etc.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with a pair of jeans for the top of my board.....

I thought it would look awesome..... especially if I could somehow get a pocket and the crouch (no zipper of course)......

10.5 core cell?

How are you planning to fiberglass this? You'll need a lot more than a light fg, so added cotton won't change much...

I made a couple boards with the 10.5 corecell and never got any issues. I tend to agree that for a surfboard it is quite slim but given the dimension of the board I think it will right all right. I do not expect to right it in the waves though as I kite mostly in rivers/lakes...
