Hi!
I wanted to vacuum laminate my kiteboard, but I don't have the pump yet. How much underpressure would I need to laminate a board? Is it possible with a hand vacuum pump? Or do I have to buy an electric one? Thanks for your responses!

Hi
I use one of these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vacuum-ejector- ... 1427439751 and its gives you more than enough vacuum. I use a normal compressor or a dive tank (low preassure outlet on the first stage) to power it.Simple and cheap.
cheers
Johan

@jlsail Could you post a picture of how this exactly works? Because I assume that it's similar to this below but the build of yours is quite different, I don't see te vacuum hole perpendicular to the rest of device.

Old fridge compressor is ok. Easily available for free, ready to plug in and it is silent. I measured it produces quite fast 90% vacuum.
For laminating purposes it doesn't matter if "vacuum" is 90% or 99%, air pressure is enough in both cases. Even 50% underpressure equals 2,500kg of weight pressing the normal sized (ca. 0,5m2) board.

Hi
One side connection to compressor, other side suction/vacuum. The discharge is in the center were the "round discs" are.

Nothing can compare with a quiet run of a fridge compressor
Get over it and get one, it's really simple. The bigger you get, the better.
Compressors are noisy buggers, and no need to run them all night for our application.
