RR resin is the worst crap I've used.. fish eye's like crazy under the slightest contamination, I've tried 5 other resins all are very resistant to fish eye and bubbling...if you have to hot coat in a cleanroom after warding off evil spirits with dna and a blow dryer you sir have a shit resin.

BWD the first time I used it , was the day after I received it direct from RR so not sure about old or not. and my shop it at 75 degrees all year around
have to order more resin and maybe get another Additive F to see what happens

Nice discussion, thanks guys.

I am not using a brush, just a plastic credit card and a lot of elbow grease...

Tom are you sure those "crystals" are in hotcoat?
It looks to me like FG cloth would get just a little bit dried out during curing, giving that crystal efect. At least judging what can be seen from your 2nd photo.
I got very similar result on my last build (and one build before that, although slightly better).
The result was worse with plain weave (bi-directional) compared to UD FG, and also worse with wood with big pores (ash, although preesealed with epoxy) compared to bamboo veener. And the result is pretty much consistent through the whole board. Crystals also got a bit blushy over time.
Using PoxySystems resin and hardener L (from R&G). I'm not sure it develops any parafin film. I guess the ABS topsheet would show some sign of delamination by now.

The Additive F has been jellied, but I warm it in water bath and shake it an it goes clear. it's likely the hot air gun causing it. I'll be trying it again on a test board. The other 4 boards I'm building for customers this year I will use a new batch of epoxy from Easycomposites.

The Additive F must have a huge molecules, just like Xylene (pX) does. Google xylene melting point:

13.2 °C

This means if the temperature drops it will start to crystallise and ice. That is not below 0 but 13.2 ! The flash point is 27°C (81 °F) or lower, so no torch (heat gun) I would say.

Might try pX today, will be interesting.

Cheers

Hi, the crystal effect is in top coat. 100% sure. The lam was flawless and wet out.
Given the flash point of 27c, I bet it's the hot air gun.
But hearing that 2 others having similar issues, it costing 50% more than EZ product, I will stop trying to use it and use the rest of it on prototypes and builds that don't need cosmetics.
