I realized that this color is same color as my first board built 45 years ago. It was not conscious decision... Spooky.
So will keep deck white and add carbon strip on stringer and black pinline.

Do what I assume are carbon stripes actually help?
I actually have no idea carbon makes any difference. I suspect they are not needed for longitudinal stiffness.
But generally I need strength in tail to withstand fin forces, but that could probably be done some other way. Future work.....
They will stop your board from flexing as much if they weren't there.

What kind of glass lay up are you doing?

What density is your foam?

The foam is standard surfboard blank. Density unknown. I could weigh a shaped blank, I know the volume.
Bottom is 4+7+4 oz. Deck is 7 patch+7+4
Concave deck and bottom.

Just got back from Brazil and 4+ hrs on the water per day x 8 days. Lots of hard landings and beating the board. I got a few pressure dings on the deck forward of the deck pad. I think they are from me bouncing off the board during uncontrolled air landing. That area is 7+4 oz. Not strong enough.

Awesome boards Tom! Your lamination looks so perfect - any tips for doing thin rails? I had trouble getting all the gaps out from between the board and the rail on my cedar skimboard.

It looks like you tape around the rail before laminating each side, then score the glass when tacky to remove excess neatly?

Is there a way of repairing those dings? I think there are more unestethical, but I have one ony Vanguard and I would like to repair it...
Or I should leave it like it is?
Thanks for reply, Tom!

I'm not a repair expert, but as long as the lamination is not cracked it's only aesthetic.
To repair I would grind away the glass from the depression area, then fill exposed foam area with glass balloon / epoxy mix, sand down to slightly lower than glass and then glass over. Have to taper the edges of grind hole. On your vanguard you could then give it a coat of white paint.
On my Board with green foam tint it would look horrible...

:) You could stick a sticker over it to hide.
