Tt fin location? Canting

Postby Onthewater860 » Thu Dec 15, 2016 5:21 pm

How do you determine fin location distance from tip distance from edge? Also what about Cant of fins towards outside? Has anyone been messing around with this?

Mine are 35mm at the closes point to the rail.

I experimented with cant. no noticeable difference so I flagged it.

It all depends, dude.
I haven't tried any cant or ridden any boards with cant. I can't see cant making much diffs.
:-)
But fin location.... fin location is all about much leverage you want.
And how much fin you want in the water..

I say, can the cant.

I added some fins to my skate last night. Pretty much one on each corner.
Outside edge to get as much fin in the water when edging.
And on the skate my back foot is almost right at the back, so not as much leverage as a traditional kite board where your foot is further inward.

'Toe in' or cant?
Toe in is going to create drag because it is intended, in surfing, to force the board to point INTO the face of the wave as you go down the line.

So its really creating drag unless you are turning a slight angle.
A little toe in will help the board the want to go upwind.
And no toe in (parallel to the rail) will make the board take wide turns.

The cant is for lift. Too much and you lose drive out of turns ....even though it will feel looser.

You can buy fins with different cant btw.
Good luck!
