First plywood twin tip

Postby aerohydro » Sat Jan 14, 2017 12:07 pm

I'm at the very earliest stage of learning to kitesurf and am aiming to build my own boards as I progress. So far I've had one session on this board where I managed to stay upright for about a 30 seconds over the course of three hours, I did have to learn to fly a new kite in that time as well.

The board is 9mm ply, epoxy coated. Design and construction basically follow the concepts from zeroprestige.org. The fins are the only place I used any glass. I steam-ironed some rocker into it, but it ended up pretty flat. I weigh 70-75kg so I suppose this is a pretty big board. I felt underpowered with an 11 square metre kite in 15 knots.

I doubt the curves really do anything besides look intersting, but I just couldn't bring myself to leave it rectangular.

Looking forward to some wind so I can try it again.

I would appreciate any comments/critique on this board or suggestions for my next one.

I'm thinking if Fred Flintstone kited this is what his board would look like. Only kidding it looks good and I'm sure it was fun to build.
