Another option is to use a replaceable bar insert eg https://shop.thekitesurfcentre.com/nort ... 5323-p.asp (I have done this in the past on a bar with a worn ally center piece - just ground the hole out big enough and set the insert in epoxy)
If you don’t think there is enough material to safely cut out the hole, you can always add another sleeve on the outside of the bar.

The difficulty of using a center insert like that on homemade CF tube/bar is that the insert requires the removal of too much of the tube, weakening the center.
You can see that north added thickness to the bar to compensate. Of course, you could wrap your CF bar with extra layers of CF or glass in the middle - but it makes it more complicated.

My thought is that if you are going to trouble to make bar and rig it ( you have learned to do a locking eye splice) its really easy to make a new CL line if it wears out. The 4-5mm dyneema line only costs 3€ a meter.

Ive used my franken bar a few times now- with the 2mm foam grip its really nice- My CL hole is 8mm+ diameter, and with the 4mm CL dyneema line theres a lot of " slop" of bar around CL line when flying- I´d like to tighten that up on next bar.
I´ll make hole smaller all-around.

What about using a nylon sleeve for the center line? I had a cabrinha bar, and while it was thick and not that comfy, I liked their center line solution a lot:

Other option is nylon rod but that might be difficult to drill big holes (it will melt)
I think I would run water on the hole while drilling the nylon if melting is an issue.

Thx again for your response

Paul

yep. it is quite tricky to make and reinforce hole that size...

Well my China-sourced items have started to arrive and i’m starting on my bar. I’m thinking i’ll use the low friction ring epoxied to carbon tube with some carbon tow wrapped around. I sanded down the ring on belt sander and finished with paper and broom handle to get a good fit.

QR is old flysurfer leash QR on some 7/64th Amsteel. I’m going trimless and flagless. Bought some Jerry Brown line one 500# lines to top it off. Total about $100 so far.

Turned out well for first attempt. Wrapping the low friction ring to the bar took at few trial and error attempts but 30 min epoxy pot life helped. Made kind of a mess. I drilled holes and epoxied a bit of poly tubing in bar ends to run rear leaders through. I’ll find some corks or rubber stoppers to make it air tight and float.

Cow for scale.

would that ring connection to the bar really hold if you loose the bar and it hits the stopper?

Yes, bearing in mind I have a long long bar throw and am only freeride foiling in light wind with it.
