Refreshing a boards top sheet?

Postby rtz » Thu Apr 13, 2017 5:55 pm

I have an older CF board(06-08?). It's got a lot of abrasions on the top and bottom. When the board is wet; it looks flawless.

I haven't attempted to sand or polish or use any chemicals on it. Is there anyway to get it looking like it does when it's wet when it's dry?

Maybe spray on a layer of good quality clear coat? And then sand and polish it.

Who cares! its an old board. Ride it!

Otherwise sand smooth and polish. Or Spray clear coat on after sanding then polish.

Me, i'd just ride it.

Any recommendations on what to use to coat? I too have an old CF board where the deck has "checkered" from the sun but the bottom is pretty good.

No real recommendations, sorry. I think any reasonable quality clear coat will be fine.
Just be wary of any existing pin holes on the existing surface. They're generally a pain to get rid of, you may need a filling compound.

Thanks for the advice on the pinholes. I have not noticed any, but I will check up close. I have a can of Krylon clear, non-yellowing that I will test first. Can't make it look any worse than it is.

Here's my CF before and after. I wet sanded the top sheet with 400 emery and sprayed with Krylon Clear. Had some problems with humidity, heat, but it looks a lot better. Will maybe wet sand it again and put another coat later.

Yep, that's generally the process. Paint, sand, paint, sand.. until it either looks good enough or you get tired :-)
