Releasble kiteboard-for boot riders

Postby mkat » Wed Jul 25, 2018 9:12 am

Hi guys,
Releasable kite/wakeboard bindings (working prototype) - patented and tested:
Just using them on sand:
www.dropbox.com/s/ebgnj93dmoexp7g/SK2.avi
Testing the release function:
www.dropbox.com/s/qvlibr3y5ahpv0f/sk3.avi
( sorry about the music- was my kids selection!)
Designed them after a full ankle recon following an accident ( twintip strap twisted around the right foot) as a rehab tool and been kiting for the last year with no issues (but pain).
Recently my surgeon asked my to stop kiting or else...
I spoke to the major players ( SS,LF,HyperLite,Cabrinha): the verdict: "Nice design but the 4xM6 system is cheaper and safer". Probably. It took the skiing world 50 years to accept bindings we are using now.
So if you want develop your own bindings brand , or try the bindings and improve the design they are yours-I am not going to extend the patent beyond this year.
Drop me a message- I kite off Brighton Beach in Melbourne.

I think PM = "personal message".

Great idea. I'm surprised one of the board/bindings companies wasn't interested (esp. Hyperlite or LF).

So I had an idea years ago to make it so your pads and straps would work similar to this, that way when you were walking in the water or beach with sharp shells etc you didn't need booties... Looks like this would work well for that but I don't get the point with boots... I thought the whole reason for wearing boots was so that the board would not come off you feet... who wants to approach a slider and have the board release... that would not be good.

Thank you,guys!
“To release or not to release?”- the alpine skiing community had this discussion decades ago- with the outcome we are all familiar with: https://www.google.com.au/search?source ... 3C9gTDnIaM

As to the big companies -as one of the designers I spoke to pointed:”the number of kiteboarding boots we sell does not justify further research and development of similar products”...
Not until some mad inventor comes up with financially viable product ( breaking his legs and going broke in the process)- only then the big players agree to quietly copy the design.
But I’d rather it be stolen an used than shelved and forgotten-I believe it makes the use of boots in kitesurfing more attractive (and in this guys case- much safer):

Chrz!

I for one am impressed, and sad that one of the players hasn’t taken it on - looks a fantastic idea.

Boots give you incredible amounts of control and leverage. Going to foot straps from boots is like going to strapless from straps.
If you can control when the board releases, that's golden!

Generally most ride boots for the performance advantages, the board not coming off is an added bonus. Could be very useful to guys training to reduce injuries. Main concern would be only one boot releasing which would potentially cause very bad injury. How is the release force determined or is it adjustable?
