Algarve - Faro - Summer restrictions

Postby dan44zip » Fri Jun 08, 2007 10:09 pm

Hola amigos! Sorry, I can't write in portuguese. :-?

Are there any restrictions in Algarve (from Manta Rota to Faro) during August??? I'm specially interested in the Ilha de Faro rules and kite areas...

We're going to visit this area for ten days in August and we want to stay in Faro, trying to kite in Manta Rota, Tavira, Faro, Vilamoura, etc... and a couple of days for surfing in Carrapateira.

Would you advice me about kite sizes in the Tavira area??
Is all the natural park of Faro plenty of water or is it mainly sand?In google maps we can't appreciate...
Could we walk through the water in the Ilha de Tavira and in the Ilha de Faro spots??
Where is the best place near Faro to going out at night?

Many thanks for your help. If anyone prefere spanish writting I can translate, I'm from Barcelona... :thumb:

Hi.
Kite sizes is about all that you have, you never no how strong the wind is going to be.

Last year I spent a week with a 9m and the rest of the time with 14m.

You have a spot in Tavira another Fuzeta its the next island before Faro and plenty more from then on
To get to the islands you have to catch a (very little Ferryboat), unless you have a boat you can't walk through island to Island
Night life from Faro to Sagres "all night long" if you bring a car just watch out, almost every village has night life and lots of drunks.

I'm sending a google earth file with a few spots in Algarve I know there's more but don't know them all.

I'll be in Fuzeta from 28 July to 20 of August.

fell free to drop by
if you need more guidance send me a PM

all de best

If your looking for oficial kitebeaches, you have only 2 choices - Nova Vaga near Lisbon and Cabedelo de Viana in Viana do Castelo.

but in portugal there is almost no legal problems as the coast guard doesn't generally really worry about us. from all the few stories i've heard, the hardest thing that ever happened was that the riders were accompanied to the nearest beach or were sent off the water. No prison, no tickets, no nothing lol.

so basicly just pick the place you feel like you like the most. i'd personally pick the algarve cause it has wind just like any other place in the country, only it's warmer. but if your aim is training, then i'd go to viana and esposende, for sure! :thumb:
