Learn wave kitesurfing - new online video course

Postby KitesurfingCapeTown » Wed Jun 17, 2015 5:42 pm

We, Kitekahunas, have recently produced a free video course on wave kitesurfing (Lesson 1: Overview).

From practising basic turns on twin-tip boards (Lesson 2 - how to start wave kitesurfing), to surf your first wave (Lesson 4). Eventually the first series leads to more spectacular moves like top-turns (Lesson 5). We are really interested in what you think about it so please review the video course if you have used it. And maybe you can come up with ideas for new wave kitesurfing videos for next season. By example, the lesson how to gybe / basic gybe (Lesson 10) will be released soon.

Enjoy!

Gybing seems obvious to start a wave kitesurfing video course with. But, we actually choose not to for the reason that one doesn't need to be able to gybe to have great fun in the waves.

The idea is that you just start wave kitesurfing on a directional board and start catching waves and have fun! For that the basic turns with the right timing are a necessity, but not the gybing (changing feet).

There are alternatives to gybing. First of all: make a downwinder which is most fun anyway! Enjoy the flow and hop from wave to wave like a snowboarder slaloms downhill. Or if you are restricted to one kite spot, surf toeside to gain back some hight. This might feel unnatural in the beginning but you'll get used to that. At anytime you can choose to stear your kite up, slowly sink your bud, move your kite over, and change the wave board in to the other direction, like shown in Lesson 2 - how to start wave kitesurfing.

We are very interested in your experiences using the wave kitesurfing video course so we invite you to review the videos and share your thoughts!
