Or 11?
Tried a Drifter 10 and other wave kites in 10m recently and liked them, but with our wind I wondered about a 12m for more bottom end. Not interested in chasing low wind riding, as the water is too flat on the lake, but when it gets to about 18 knots I want to ride a directional
Do they just become trucks above 10m or is it worth it?

Not worth it. Get a better planing board (Vanguard) and stick with a 10 or smaller. At 18kts I'm pretty well lit on my 7m Razor and 5.4 VG.

I agree. 12m wave kite is batshit boring. Better to go higher aspect in the lighter winds.
That said at 77kg i'll just start to think about a 10m at 18 knots.
The larger guys here typically aren't getting into there 10m wave kites until 20 knots. They are typcially on 12's or bigger sub 20.

Totally depends on the board though. I'm 85kg and on my Global or any other normal surfboard I'd need a 9 or 10 in 18kts. With the VG I'm able to downsize about 2m. It just planes that much better.

If you think about it... 2 m more is what 5cm more all along the trailing edge? If you kite in 10m conditions, 15 to 27 knots (there is room t both ends here), a 12m will be a 10m for bigger guys, if you are in 12m conditions, (12+knots), a 10m will be a 12m for lighter people.
Given it is the same kite model, a 12m gives you bit more lowed but marginally, and will shave a few knots at the top. I prefer a 10m over a 12m and when I need more power, I jump to 14m. Yes sometimes, the wind is right in between.
Cheers!

Even at 220 pounds I don't bother with bigger than 10m on directional in waves. 10m works for me in 16-20 knots. 18-25 I am good on 8m. Over 25 it is time for 6m.

Will the difference in speed, drift and float be noticeable?

Obviously it depends on the kite, but figure you are adding
at least 20% more weight to the kite. The difference in turning speed and drift will definitely be noticeable, and not in a good way when you are trying to ride waves.
My opinion is, if it's not windy enough to surf with a 10m, then you should just go surfing (or get a foil).

That's kinda my opinion too, but there are times when I just can't get it on with the 10m (2011 Crossbow 10m, that is
), but other guys are doing fine. I know my Duke isn't suited to low end riding, so I've got another board coming.
Maybe 11m would be better

What is the usage of the 13m size drifter then? I was offered a good deal for 2016 drifter in size of 13m. Am 95kg weight, since 2016 this kite has setting for a freeride ride, mainly bought it to to get on water at slower winds then 8ms. Currently with switchblade 10m and twintip riding on 8m - 12ms wind. Is this a bad deal for me?
