It was short lived, but they were the hot item for a few years within the skimboarding scene. It was the early 2000's and they were really popular in S America. Even some competitions were created around them. I think they died off with skimmers because the concept killed the ability to pull shovits and bigspins on a skimboard which was becoming the "new cool" back then.

Could always try doing half-straps, so you can get out of them more easily. Like the guys who invented Freebords did.

...check out the new wax mats by surfco. Lots of good rumors flying around that they 'finally got the formula' correct.
Soft like the nose guards. But super thin and as grippy or grippier than wax.
