New boards vs old boards?

Postby kiteswede » Mon Oct 29, 2018 3:19 pm

Hello

My first post!

I bought a used board for me when I started kitesurfing. Its a epoxi cabrinha board for bigger waves, 5 years old. Is this board outdated compared to new boards from 2018 with same wave size?

(I own a f-one slice and is really happy with it yet, for smaller waves in Sweden. Hasnt jumped much with it yet though. )

Surfboards have been around for hundreds of years. Shape and size is very personal but the latest creations are lighter and stronger than ever. I also own a F-One Slice 2019 and a Signature 2018 for bigger/faster waves. Previously owned a Signature 2014 which was also excellent and recently tried an old 2012 Wainman surfboard which was also good but very heavy.
If you are happy with your Cabrinha in bigger waves , no reason to change it, fashion also applies to kitesurfing :)

Thanks you for the input. Its quad also. Problem is that we dont have big waves here :) So I dont know if its a keeper when I travel 😉

But its only 300gram (5 10)more weight than slice flex (5 3)

It can still be fun tho. I think I know the board you are referring to. Its a great board for powered sessions so you can get into waves powered. Also fun to go fast on since you'll have control.
Its too narrow for light wind, but still a fun board.

There are trends in KB / surfing and certainly compared to the current trends the board is a bit out dated...but it doesn't mean you can't have fun on it.

This is the reason why I keep a Naish Global in my quiver. Now Naish has updated the shape through the years, but having a board you can really rip the waves with and go fast once the surf is bigger is critical IMO.
