I would think it would depend on the wind conditions, if it's very gusty then maybe shorter lines could be better, as the kite will move around the wind window quicker in response to changes in wind angle and strength, ie if you get a gust from further back, the kite will accelerate forward to the edge of the window quicker than if you had long lines, enabling you to get a fraction more height. Though with longer lines the kite is higer up in more wind that is also more consistant.
What line length do you use for your speed runs?

it depends on the course:
If it`s really downwind, I take normal line length = 24m for a stable position in the wind window, as control is very important at high speed.
If the course is square, I take shorter lines = 19m for the the kite going quicker in front to pull me more forward.
So for going upwind I could imagine a line length of 14 - 15m might be perfect ?

What is the max line length you have tried for light winds? The PKRA race updates mentioned some longer line lengths for light wind racing being experimented with.
