Is it permitted to use a good old fashioned magnetic compass when kite racing?

If there is no rule against it I'd like to give it a try, they are very helpful in sailing when spotting headers and lifts.

is the Locosys GT-31 waterproof?
I their specs they say it's rated to IPX7 waterproof, yet I've read in a few places that it requires a dry-bag.
Thoughts anyone?
