Welcome back to Cagliari and Day 2 of the Kiteboard Youth & Masters World Championships. After a challenging first day of racing yesterday the teams were well attuned for another day of tricky conditions on the water. However despite a reasonable forecast, a lack of wind early on meant racing was postponed giving competitors extra time for rig preparation.

Waiting for the go ahead the riders gathered on Poetto beach raring to get back out onto the water and improve on yesterdays performance, eager to show that they could reach top speeds in a variety of conditions.

Finally the breeze filled in on the race course near to the shore, once again providing some excellent conditions for kite surfing. The youth fleet saw a close battle between Maks Zakowski and Maxime Noche with both competitors putting in a strong performance. After the first race of the day Maxime scored a bullet taking the lead over Maks who finished the race in second place. The pair are well matched and equally determined to take the title so it looks set to be a nail biting championship to the very end.

In the masters fleet Tomek from Poland dominated yet another race reaching a score line of 5 bullets in a row and proving he’s in great shape to take the title. Poland has some great prospects in this championship with solid performances from both Maks & Tomek who each take the top spot in both of their fleets.

Before further racing could get underway clouds filled the sky and the wind picked up even further. With predictions of a storm on the horizon the race committee called all of the riders back to the shore in anticipation. In the end the storm didn’t materialize allowing the competitors to head back out onto the water.

In the masters fleet Tomek scored another bullet putting him safely in the lead with a perfect score line. Over in the youth fleet there was a repeat result from the days earlier race with Maxime taking another win and establishing a 2 point advantage over Maks – it’s a lead but by no means a comfortable one. Due to the changeable weather conditions the race committee decided to end the day with each fleet having completed two races.

So for now the competitors can rest up and debrief but the series will continue tomorrow with more races scheduled. So be sure to catch us again with the days highlights.
