Situated on the western coastline of the crystal-blue waters of the Bay of Palms, where the sapphire Sea of Cortez meets desert and mountains, Los Barriles hosts one of the most exciting events in Baja Peninsula and the biggest kitesurfing event in Mexico – The Lord of the Wind. The World-class competition and stunning location, make this a “must do” event.

The East Cape of Baja is renowned worldwide for its warm waters, consistent winds and great beaches – attracting a host of top riders intending to add their name to the list of champions winning this iconic event.

Lord of the Wind is a sensational season opener, which sets the pegging for the year ahead, and forces even the world’s top riders to raise their game to hold any hope of securing a podium finish.

One of the world’s best riders, and reigning Lord of the Wind Champion, Julien Kerneur of France has returned to defend his title and inevitably will offer up some of the most high octane racing action around.

To add even more fuel to the fire, female front-runner and local hero Cynthia Brown is in the line-up and plans to knock-out a strong performance to retain her Lady of the wind title.

The event is also the International Kiteboarding Association Kite Foil North American Championship, so the Kite Hydrofoil course featured some fierce competition too, as all athletes tried to establish themselves on race day 1.

After a superb opening day of races, riders enjoyed some rest and soaked up the laid-back atmosphere and warm hospitality shoreside. We’ll be back with more action from the thrilling world of kite surfing - so stay with us!
