US Sailing published this letter to their site concerning the future of Olympic sailing and World Sailing's attempts to retain their medal/athlete count going forward. As such, US Sailing made a recommendation about the format for Paris that includes kites. That recommendation can be found on World Sailing's site here:

I think kiteboarding should have a place in the olympics! It's modern, fast, attractive to media and cheaper than other sailing classes, very much so if you count transport costs.
Having it as mixed team is however not good. There is a big risk that the best kiteboarder will stand without a medal! If the partner of opposite sex is not good enough they are both out of a medal chans. It's not a team effort but two individual efforts that counts together. Think of the same system in pole jumping or in 100m running. It makes no sense. Why do they want have it like this? To be able to to keep another sailing class in the olympics..
I think it's about time to change some of the 50 to 70 year old classes to something more up to date if sailing want to stay in the olympics.

It's clear from their long winded intro and vague proposal, that they don't really know what to do, and they are trying to please too many diverse stake-holders.
I think it's a waste of time and money for all involved.

They are so desperate to please, being part of some of the lowest olympic viewing figures (sailing - threats of no more olympics for them from ioc) that they are just making this stuff up as they go along.
"mixed kite triathlon" a race hydrofoil and twin tip mixed with a distance race, and wave riding comp.
wtf! lol
last time they introduced kitesurfing as an "urban sport" when they tried and failed to make it olympic. Beyond clueless! its like watching something where you are not sure if it is comedy or not, you hope it is a joke.. cos only that makes sense. say you got a room full of people that know little or nothing about kiting, say for example sailors... oh there you have it... seems likely the problem.
sailing has until november to invent a format based on potential viewing figures of a sport that isnt even sailing, they are struggling, too funny!
kiteboarding 10 years later still isnt actually in the olympics in case anyone was wondering

Would make more sense to simply take the most well established Kitesurfing competion formats.
I would personally not mind if kitesurfing will never become olympic. For me it's not a competition sport. Just personal enjoyment...
