Official Press release for the Cannon Rocks Kiteboarding Classic 2015, 3rd to the 5th of October
The Cannon Rocks Kiteboarding Classic has established itself as one of the top Kiteboarding events in South Africa over the last 5 years.
Some changes that were in the pipeline have now materialized in the 5th edition of the event.
The event date has been moved from January to October to better suit riders and organizers alike.
The Eastern Cape coast generally has amazing conditions for kitesurfing during the month of October. Organizer Cedric Vandenschrik explains:
“Putting an event together with the December Holiday madness running up to it was a recipe for stress and complications. Also the influx of spectators had grown a little beyond the means of the contest. It made sense to move it on many levels”
Planned to coincide with the October school term break, the contest hopes to still draw modest crowds on the beach.
This year the South African Kitesurfing association will partner in the event. This means that The CRKC 2015 will in fact be the first stop on the South African Kite tour 2015/2016.
International Judge Olaf van Tol who is often running contests on the World Kite tour will once again be the contest director. It will be his second time in Cannon Rocks.
Being a SAKA affiliated event means that all top aspiring pro riders in South Africa will make the trip to the little coastal village.
Of course to make all this possible requires sponsors. Cedric expands:
“Based on the strength of the past events, we were able to get amazing support from long standing sponsors. The kiteboarding brand Peter Lynn is once again a major Cash sponsor. Amazing support from local businesses who have all contributed as small cash sponsors: Genergy, Cannon Rocks Holiday Resort, Wipronet, Pam Golding, Cannon Rocks Home Builders.”
However, The Cannon Rocks Kiteboarding classic has upheld its dedication to creating a platform for local riders to meet up and enjoy the famed conditions together.
The CRKC aims to keep the festival vibe that has permeated every edition so far.
