Tarifa Strapless Kitesurfing Pro 2016

Postby Toby » Thu Jun 16, 2016 12:24 pm

The Tarifa Strapless Kitesurfing Pro 2016 starts with the qualifiers on the 29th June and runs until the 3rd July.

After the success of last year in which Airton Cozzolino took the title ahead of Keahi de Aboitiz,
the 2016 event carries a big expectation among the industry, riders and kiting fans. The Tarifa
Strapless Kitesurfing Pro 2015 saw huge crowds pack the beach, cheering loudly for the incredible
action on the water. This year looks set to further build on that success and be even bigger and
better in 2016.

Strapless Kiters: Tarifa is waiting for you!

The city for watersports lovers and trend addicted is ready to host the most revolutionary kitesurfing championship

There is only one week left to celebrate another edition of Tarifa Strapless Kitesurfing PRO, the first stop in a big tour that continues in Sotavento –Fuerteventura-, One Eye –Mauricio Island- and Fortaleza –Brasil-. From the 29th of June until 3rd of July, riders from different places in the world will arrive to Spain in order to face a big challenge: win at Tarifa, the wind mecca.

“The Strapless rider is the one who wants to explore the limits of surf with a kite, or the one who wants to face a challenge: flying and doing tricks strapless”, explained Jaime Herráiz, tour technical director.
Valdevaqueros Beach –Chiringuito Tangana- will host the competition. On Wednesday, the first day, there will be a trials session, and then at 7 p.m. we will have the official presentation at WET Cafè; and the championship will continue until Saturday.

The rules are very simple, everybody at the beach can understand them perfectly. “There will be a closed track in the water, marked by four buoys, where riders have to do their tricks. In each heat there will be two men face to face who will be scored by three issues: technical difficulty, general point of view and Wow factor, which is “the ability to impress the judges and the public”, said Jaime Herráiz.

For the event, riders have been practicing new tricks throughout one year. Because of this, riders will offer big jumps and impossible tricks, some will even handle pass with a surf board… and any other surprises.

Tarifa will host riders from all over the world: from Hawaii -Nicolo Porcella, Patri McLaughlin-, Australia -Keahi de Aboitz-, Cape Verde -Matchu Lopez, Airton Cozzolino- USA -Matt Elsasser, Reider Decker- and other diferent places of Europe like portuguese Paulino Pereira, or the italian guys Sandro Pissu and Stefano Gentilli. Juli Rebollo and Jan Marco Rivera, who represented the locals.

They all agree that the place stands out in its conditions to practice this sport, but also in its peculiarity: for being so authentic, for the hospitality of the locals, for an unbeatable gastronomy and also because this small town is iconic for the practice of international sports in both sea and wind.

Apart from being witnesses of the show that this competition offers, those that go to the town of Tarifa, will be able to experience firsthand the atmosphere created at night throughout the competition. A city that doesn’t rest and lives the rhythm of the wind.

The tour which is certified by the GKA –Global Kitesports Association- starts in Tarifa, the sanctuary for kite and will later also take place in Sotavento (Fuerteventura, España), One Eye (Isla Mauricio) y Fortaleza (Brasil).
