Looping the kite and golfers elbow

Postby lindseym » Sat Sep 28, 2013 5:25 pm

Greeting all,
In November of last year I started to develop golfers elbow (soreness on the inside tendon). At that time I was riding a 14m switch and hitting tons of backroll transitions with a loop. This is what probably caused it since that tendon was taking all the load in order for the kite to loop. That kite is great but it has some heavy bar pressure (2011 model). Since then, the pain has reduced significantly but its still prevalent, especially after long sessions. Anyway, here's my question:

I noticed in the video that Toby loops the kite with ease and he does have to fish pole or put any strenuous amounts of torque into the bar, which is probably much better for your arms. How is this done? Also, if anyone else has developed golfers elbow and cured it please let me know what you did. I am currently icing it after sessions, stretching, and going to order a theraband flex bar. Additionally, I may switch out my quiver to something with less bar pressure since this will probably help.

thanks all,
Lm

Hi Lindsey,

Not sure what you mean with this. Can you maybe explain?

I have quiet some pressure on the bar, which is good to feel where the kite is.

I used to have problems with my elbows...had tennis AND golfer arm...my brother, an orthopedic, gave me few injections...and since then no more problems.
I do stretch a bit for those muscles before every session.

A friend of mine says, the more you stretch, the less problems you will have.
So try to do it a lot and it should get better.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response Toby. What i meant to say is that he (you) "does not have to fish pole" - meaning that when you loop the kite you make pretty easy and it looks as if you don't have to put too much effort into it. I sometimes have to put two hands on one end of the bar (fish poling) to make it loop on big kites, especially when its really powered up.

Needless to say, yesterday I went out for a 4 hour session and had significantly less pain in my elbow simply by modifying the way I was executing the backroll transition. That's not to say that Im cured but I now know what to do to prevent it from getting worse.

Just out of curiosity, what type of injections did you receive?
Thanks
Lm
