Flyboard Radical S tuning - sanding, grabrail

Postby Macisback » Sat Oct 19, 2013 6:59 pm

Hi Toby,

I have a question, how did you glue the Flysurfer (R4) grabrail on the R3? It has a diffeerent edge, so it has to be adjusted. Did you cut it? How?

Another question is, how much and where did you sand your fins? Flysurfer fins are pretty sharp at the back - so I plan to sand them quite a bit at the back.

Super glue it and stand on it until it is dry ;-)
No cutting needed.

I sand off the sharp wn of the fins to make them less dangerous, just make it rounder where it is sharp.

OK thank you! I will sand them off with a professional machine and then spray them with clear paint I guess. I will try to under-cut the grabrail a bit 20 degree angle), so I get a perfect fit by optimising the surface that is glued on the board, whilst not loosing too much height of the grab rail.

Slowly getting there with my equipement

Finished the customising. I found the cutting and sanding of the grabrails quite tough. Exact crafting and being very careful are essential. Good machines are really important. I made the rails a bit shorter on the sides where they were angled. I also gave it a negative angle cut of 17,5 degree, which is exactly the angle it sits on the edge. Meaning now you have a straight edge to grab again. :-)
I also sanded the 3M tape off - so I can use 2 component glue (BD Weld) which will never go off.

The fins were a bit easier to sand, 2 different strenghtes of sandpaper and the result was really good (machine needed).

Yes, I am really keen to get back on the water!!! I have 6-8 weeks of kiting a year at the moment (2-3 vacations). For a 9-5 job pretty good though I think.
But to be honest I would like to kite as often as possible, so I guess I need to find a different way (office near a good spot - Brasil, Belize, Mauritius etc.) All I need to work is fast internet...

Well and there is the fitness side too...business dinners, laziness and too little sport put on 16 kg in 3 years... Lost half of it since I am kiting.

Plan is to loose the other 8 in the next 6 month and unlike you, who gets fit by kiting I need to get fit in the studio and with mountainbiking.

Well from the gear side Im almost done with my setup and now it is all about kiting, kiting, kiting :-) I hope I will manage some of your nice tricks in the future :-)

Portuguese is similar.
I came with some spanish to brazil and was able to communicate.
Many spaniers here speaking portanol and works fine!
