5th Line Trimming on Dyno 18m 2011

Postby fat blokes can fly » Fri Feb 19, 2016 10:05 am

Recently snapped my 5th line on my 18 and would like to ensure my trim is correct, so would like for you guys to share your settings. :thumb:

1. What is the correct length of 5th line. Is this length fitted or unfitted length?

2. How tight should it be when fully sheeted in. And at this point should the trailing edge be straight.

Cheers
Adam

Do it as long as your arm is.
You want the full length, and the rest for extra depower.
So the stopper does not need to be moved down, that would loose some extra depower when you need to pull the depower strap.

Trim that the tips go wider, but not too wide so the kite would backstall.

My bad.

I meant the 5th, leading up from the V to the kite

Keep all 5 lines equal length. Like normal. The part under the V, should have little tension when on full power.
That said, the 5th on the kite (bridle 5th) is a little short. You can lengthen that one a bit.

Make sure there is no tension on the 5th line for the 2011 Dyno when riding! It's not designed to have any tension on the 5th line, 5th line is just there for when you go to the leash and for relaunch.

Someone on here had noted that their 2011 Dyno's leading edge blew apart. They fixed it, and it blew apart again. They then realized this was because their front lines had stretched more than the 5th line putting tension in the 5th line which the leading edge was not designed to take.

After reading that, I noticed mine had some tension also, so I added a pigtail to the fifth line.

correct, when you pull the bar down for maximum power, the 5th line should be slightly slack (no tension).
