Kitebar suggestions for air style

Postby wallyman » Sat Mar 11, 2017 4:58 am

Have a quiver of Switchblades and core 17m but finding it difficult to do and board offs without some type of stopper ball or micro loop . Can anyone suggest a bar that would be compatible with theses kites , also stopper ball vs micro loop ? Micro loop makes more sense but how do l obtain one of these?

Hi,

a stopper or microloop makes a big difference in doing Airstyle tricks. It makes tricks possible which are not possible without.
A stopper is ok, but a microloop is the best for it.

The only chance you have right now is to get an old Core bar, that still has the microloop attached to it (very rare).

The higher chance is to get an older North bar (2009-2012) and get a microloop upgrade kit for it. Few bars are sold with microloop, so keep checking the web for it (Germany, Netherlands, Italy, USA have the highest chances for finding something).

Flysurfer has plans to develop a microloop, but so far didn't do it. Send them an email...the more mails the more likely they will do it finally...

Good luck.

Flysurfer is developing something but they are concerned about safety. I understand that they don't want their customers to die, but in my opinion the microloop is more safe than a stopperball. Also it is more practical for getting the pop and pull down the bar in sync. I'm gonna stick with the 2012 north bars and change the lines untill some one produces something better.

If sold as add on it is the customer's problem, no?

Core sold the bars with the loop attached on the bar...so beginners could get hooked by accident...and that happened.

If I add a ML to my bar as add on, I should know the risks. Plus only advanced riders would add the ML.

Not riskier than kiteboarding in general.

I would even say, airstylers are more careful than normal riders, since they have bigger kites to handle...

Dude, that is flawed logic at its best!

It's like saying its more dangerous so the people doing it are safer!

Like saying motorcyclists are more cautious than those who drive cars... Doesn't matter in the end. Motorcyclists are at overwhelmingly more risk, regardless of their behaviour.

Having too much kite for the conditions is the biggest hazards in kiting.

Micro loops were replaced by sliding stoppers you can push through for a reason.

I'm not saying you or any other air styler is unsafe. But its fact that when the wind ramps up, the guys on the biggest kites are the ones at most risk. You saying the people who deliberately rig big are more careful is flawed because rigging big is by definition more dangerous.

yes, more dangerous. that's why riders who are used to bigger kites, which AIRSTYLE riders are, pay more attention to forecasts, weather systems, launching spots etc.

e.g.: I always launch my kite with one hand on the QR. How many other kiters do this?
I don't launch in front of hazards. How many other kiters do this?

That's my point.

Another way to get a microloop bar is, to take a bar, where you can drill holes into the center. This means they need a metal or plastic center.

And you need an older quick release from North, Iron Heart from 2009-2012.

Then you can buy a micro loop upgrade kit from North https://www.airstyle.tv/buy-micro-loop/ and drill two holes into the bar, thicker from top, thinner from below, and add the North quick release.

I made a wakesytle bar from North this way:

Yep,
exactly.

Also my buddy suggested:
"Heres a mini version you could make for cheapo - same method as harness lines on a windsurf boom "

I have a FS bar v3 and thinking how to add hook to it.
