Following up on the safety discussion, there is a significant difference between Downunder's buddy's bar and the North parts bar that Toby has described.
With North quick release/Iron Heart parts (even if you add them to a non-North bar with a micro-loop kit), your kite will flag out with the CL quick release even when you're hooked into the micro-loop.
With the windsurfer loop method, your CL quick release won't flag the kite when you're hooked to the mini-loop. I say this on the assumption that the mini-loop gets hooked to your spreader bar, since you won't have the micro-loop kit with extra hook. There is added risk to this method, IMHO.

Only an assumption, I don't think anyone would hook a bar to a spreader on harness. The above pic does not suggests so, it is suggesting that the method of making a loop is the same, not drilling or anything. And not about hooking.
As always, this are advanced setups, for advanced level of riding.

Yes, a loop like this will also work, still you need a hook.
And there is only the Core or North quick release available.
This loop from your friend looks too small for being hooked into the harness hook...you need pretty long ones! So I think his setup also has a hook on the QR

If someone knows of a method of adding a reliable hook above the CL without using North (or Core) parts, I am interested. I considered the windsurf-loop modification for my bar, but couldn't figure out a way of making it work (and still flag the kite with the quick release when hooked to the mini-loop). I ultimately modified my existing 4-line bar by drilling holes and adding the North microloop and quick release system. It works well, but I am always receptive to other ideas that work in a similar fashion.
