Too Old?

Postby Kitemanmuc » Thu Oct 08, 2015 2:49 pm

So, I mentioned this in another thread the other day. I have been kiting for about 9 months now and just turned 30 the other day. I have picked up kiteboarding pretty quick as far as boosting and bankrolls and kite loops and all that jazz goes (Just cannot for the life of me figure out the damn transition jump). I see all these wakestylers at my local kitespot and they are either teenagers or they have been kiting since they were teenagers. But it looks so sick and so much fun. Has that shipped sailed for me? Or do you think I could learn some cool wakestyle tricks still? S-Bend, back mobe, etc. I wakeboarder when i was younger but never did any cool tricks. Just jumped the wake and a bockroll here and there.

Would love everyones feedback.

No way!
I know many wakestyle riders with 30+

Search for Billy Parker...he is 30+ and kills it!

Hell no... age has no bearing on style, that's just something pussies say. Wakestyle is kiteboarding.

Raley's until you're getting real good pop then back/front rolls, s-bends. Then all to toes/blind... that should keep you occupied for a while. Now get down to the beach and show them acne faced f**kers how it's done :thumb:

If you're not injured then please do it!

I'm 19 and might get told by my doctor that I can't do anymore wakestyle, use your body until you can't anymore!!

Anyway I await my MRI and I'd love to do wakestyle until I get to 80 ;)

go slowly and less injuries come from focusing on the basics everyday!!!

"Too Old?" My friend, you've got to be joking. At 30, you haven't even started!

My advice is stay in shape. Run, stretch, lift....every day do something. Even when you kite. Go for a run in the morning before you kite. If you want to stay in it for the long haul, you've got to be fit. Then it's a piece of cake. I have found that older kiters can keep up with younger guys in any kiting style (wake, waves, freestyle, airstyle) as long as they are disciplined about their fitness. :thumb:

.....my advice to anybody would be.....that there is a natural progression to it all.......dont skip steps......start with the basics and work from there.....for example if you cant do a jump transition.......then dont try a backroll to blind........for mastering each basic skill in progression will minimize injuries...............but then again your young enough to just say f^$#%# it .....but thats a personal decision

Too old to learn is not an issue for a person at any age. Until 40 your body still is in progress. After 40 you need more time and restitution. After 50 training frequently is the limitation. From 60 there might be limitations if you haven´t started earlier. Your body need to be in shape of course and your chances to become world campion are limited the later you start as progression rate decreases after you are born. It´s healthbringing to break your limits, but not to break your knee.

You are more vulnerable to injuries as the years passes, but you also know yourself better and can avoid them if you are aware that you are deadly. The joy of mastering is the best motivation for living.

Move on. Life begins at 50
