Next generation of BRM Cloud coming?

Postby tripman » Fri Sep 16, 2016 6:34 am

Following remarks of some living in Maui and today's Greg CloudWritings, would there be a new generation of Cloud coming or other reason for Greg to write this :
"I don’t plan to sew additional kites for the remainder of the year. I have reasonable availability currently but wanted to inform any riders considering adding on to their C.5 quiver that sizes will at some point go out of stock. Please contact me if you have any size needs that you’d like to discuss. Thanks."

I wouldn't read any more into that other than what it means.
Get in now before stock runs out - I'm sure there will be something in the pipeline at some stage.

Looks like the infos were accurate. Cloud D are on their way. Greg and his brother have been pretty silent these last months : non video nor Cloud writings. Too busy designing and testing? Anybody knows what the next Cloud D look like?

This is just how small businesses work. Design, test, refine, mass produce, sell/market (videos), then restart. Given the cost of carrying any unsold inventory, it's amazing that Greg even stocks kites and doesn't make them Just In Time.

I emailed him to ask about experimenting with stringy foil, reversiing it to try as a canard/spitfire style. His response was he was too busy in kite testing, couldn't change a variable as it would screw up the tests. So there you go, tweaking and finalizing next gen.

Well you better start saving if you're going to get the full quiver!

The new size range is now up from 4 to 7 kites:
2.8, 3.7, 4.8, 6.2, 8.0, 10.4, 13.4
There's some limited info up on the site, mainly on http://boardridingmaui.com/questions.html

I'm happy that I can get the full range out of 4 kites, and it seems that with this new sizing, that may still be possible, just slightly more of a stretch, by skipping sizes. But with the 2.8, there's a kite for the really big wind days.

I wonder if this is a major upgrade in performance or just an incremental one - I struggle to see how he could have improved it much at all, or at least not in a way I'd be able to notice, as the C.5 is already such an amazing kite, especially in the smaller sizes.

Yeah I'm interested too in the changes as I was considering a quiver after flying a friend's 5.5. Seems like it would be a lot harder and time consuming to dial in the different design between the small and large sizes compared with the 4 kites Greg did for the c.5 as I think he said the smaller kites were lower aspect than the larger.

I still have a few C2's 7 9 12 17 and the 4 C.5. Both the 12 and 17 get used a lot.

The gap between 8.5 and 13.5 was too large, so I am pleased Greg is adding the 10.4. Being a larger dude, the 17 has also been very useful.
