Turtle-Box for Spotz 2

Postby Bille » Fri Oct 28, 2016 12:41 am

I purchased a factory defect FreeRace front wing with a small fixable defect in it ; did
that a while back. A Long while back. :(
Yesterday i just received a Spotz 2 Mast with a small fixable flaw in it , and was looking at how
i was gonna build the female part of the Turtle-box for my mast to fit into my old Nash sky Pirate.

So the question(s) are :

* How thick should the carbon be, when i make the turtle box that's gonna go into
the surfboard ? This part is Easy for me ; making a mold , using the top of the Mast
as part of mold.

* How far behind the (Center of the front foot-strap) , should the front of the mast be. where it
fits into my home-made box ?

I got to tell Ya ; the workmanship on this Spotz 2 mast and Freerace wing, is simply Awesome ;
and looks like a work of Art !!! :thumb:

It's an incredibly fast foil, puts a smile on my face every time I get to ride one coming from a Sword2.

Why built one? Get one from Chinook:
http://chinooksailing.com/index.php/win ... e-box.html

trim it as much as possible on the top side to better fit thinner board:

Here are dims on my board:

If you can get rigid foam (divinycell or similar), build a box around tuttle box, so you can blend it into bottom of the board if box is too tall. I used 1" thick pieces of balsa wood. Cut hole in board to install, sand excess to blend to board, cover with carbon/glass and epoxy in.

The dimensions above seem about right to me also.
Note that the Spotz 2 is not a regular or a deep Tuttle, but sort of half way in between. So you can get a deep Tuttle box from Chinook and just cut it down.
Remember that the top of the Tuttle mast should NOT touch the top surface of the Tuttle box in the board.

The Spotz 2 is a great lively foil.. have fun.
