Zeeko Alu Foil placement on BRM paipo or Shinnster

Postby max » Mon Nov 14, 2016 12:58 pm

Am building a board like the BRM Paipo / Shinnster and will be mounting a Zeeko Alloy onto it.

Am hoping someone can measure the distance of the rear most foil bolts from the tail of the board.

Footstrap placements would also be helpful/interesting to note.

Which wing? Black G10 or Fibreglass Blue? They have slightly different optimal positions

Black Wing should go at 28cm from Tail of board to back Holes of the Plate

Blue Wing should go at 26cm from tail.

The Blue Wing has a bit more lift and the center of lift is a slightly farther forward. This means that it feels more comfortable positioned a little father back towards the tail.

This would only apply if using fixed strap positions, I would think.

Thanks Gunnar,

it is the Fibreglass Blue wing.

I was asking specifically about placement on the BRM/Shinnster (160cm long) as I wondered whether placement was also dependent on board style/length.
I know that Zeeko have a set distance for front strap placement relative to the foil but does not offer placement advice of the foil from the tail of the board.

I suppose it might also depend on what part of the board you wish to be standing on while riding.

I placed it at 280mm (to rear bolts) on a 158cm fish and it felt like it could have gone back maybe 40mm or even more given where my front foot position has ended up at on the board. . . and this board has a low volume narrow nose making touchdowns harder to recover at my stage.

Also, at this stage, I have only ridden strapless from the very start and am wanting to put some strap inserts on the new board (in case i wish to try the strapped feeling).

So true.

I got 4 different wings, and mostly riding strapless...

Except occasionally with my smallest racewing, I use straps to jump and do some "freestyle" (or what you will call it in my league - but table tops and rotations and just HIGH jumps) - but that is off topic...

There is a few cm difference in my wings just as Gunnar said for the Zeeko ones - regarding your foot placement, and I notice this when changing wings (which I do quite often).

It is not as simple though, as even though a bigger wing with more lift might move the point of balance forward everything else being equal and a negative lift on rear wing, the relative AOA if the bigger wing has a wide chord and same camber, is reduced quite often (depends on the baseline of course), thus it might move the point of balance rearward in reality.

The point of balance moves slightly with different wings, depending on their "baseline" as said - but it can go either way, although not that much so with footstrap inserts you should be able to adjust.

Gunnars experience is GOLD right here, as you need to know exactly where to put the straps, with one given wing :naughty:

For sure it is a matter of taste where you position the foil on the board. The measurements I gave you are for a board like the Paipo. If you are riding strap less, you can position the foil father back if you want more back foot pressure. At 28cm it has a bit of a front foot bias, which is what I prefer when riding strapless as this makes the manoeuvres easier.
