The cheap chinese Onewheel clone is a complete piece of shit. Don't bother for a second. Trotter - like opening a good label wine and discovering it's water inside.

I revived this thread as I'm seriously considering one...

What is the opinion of the owners? Still enthusiastic about it or it has faded out?
Ehmmm, I think it depends on availability of good riding spots near by, or perhaps being able to use one to commute. I for one hardly ever ride it anymore mostly because the places I like to ride at are not that close so my laziness gets in the way :-?

Yes, I agree OneWheel is Lots of fun, and does feel a bit like riding a foil on the road

???? How you ride has more to do with you than your surroundings. There are so many options if you have the eye. Like foils, Onewheels make mountains out of mole hills. Takes very little contouring ona grass surface to make a killer Onewheel session. There are generally enough trail, path, grass, beach vacant lot, whatever to have fun on a Onewheel if you wanna find it. Most really fun looking stuff is too steep for Onewheeling so you need to develop a subtle eye. Anyone getting bored on a Onewheel likely rides their foil in straight lines.

Onewheel needs some real competitors.. (I want to buy one), chinese products seems to be too low quality.
Onewheel is so simple thing, it can't be so expensive to manufacture. Compare it to e-bicycles

Ebikes in my location are more expensive than the one wheel but I know what you mean.

Most who want an eBike will build their own to their own spec. It should be possible to buy the hub and then fix up a battery/controller/chassis as you like it. I haven't seen the hub sold anywhere though.

What clone(s) are we talking about, "Onewheel" clones or different ones?

I saw them a couple of years ago, and if we for one look away from them being shit as they might be, the idea having a more narrow wheel instead of a gocart wheel, will make them much better on asphalt I would say.
Two very different targets maybe?

I have had the "classic" one-wheel for many years, awesome fun and feel when you "carve" along on the road.
Works on rougher grass too because of the wheel diameter.

Would be much better to stand "Surf style", so you can practice if you have a weaker side, so this one could be perfect on roads (if it works, could be crap build yes)

This type looked awesome in terms of "road" foiling/carving :thumb:

More info: https://www.fwheel.cc/product/product-s ... overboard/

Of course not usable on the beach and such, but it gives you a really pleasant totally smooth ride, where the classic Onewheel with the gocart tire is a bit more odd because you go over the flat part whenever you carve back and fourth - tried one yesterday and maybe one will get used to this, but when used to a narrow "round" tire it was not as clean.
But the more narrow almost mountain bike wheel, just smaller, is totally silent and you feel just as clean and free and no drag no nothing, like on a hydrofoil, when you ride edge to edge transitions on the pavement

Two slightly different types and usage, same concept, just curious as to whether anybody has tried the mountain bike tire ones where you stand surf style?
Maybe they are not available anywhere yet... And maybe too crappy made if they are...

Thanks everybody for the infos!

It seems like buying a foil in 2013…
… needs an early adopter attitude.

There is no doubt that in a few years more and better “onewheels” will be available for half the price with local distribution and support.
But if you wait, you will miss “a few years” of your life not enjoying it… (early adopter attitude)

The thought above is bugging me but I decided to wait for these reasons:

Mainly:
- Where I spend most of my time, it is not legal to drive it in non-private place (and there are already many cases of fines to e-skates )
It will take some time to become more popular and to get legislated.

Other reasons:
- There is no local or close by distribution so I will either have to get it from a neighboring country or order from US and do all the painal bureaucracy of importing and taxing … and If I get a problem or need service I’m foked.
- I feel sucker to pay 30% more than somebody in US just to have no service and support (or to be an odyssey to get it)…
- Have not tried it so there is a small risk that I will not like it.

I hope that it get's legislated more popular and locally distributed soon but until then I won't be a local pioneer, I will mtb which is more physical, has greater range, can handle more terrain and also greatly enjoy

Dude - just get it and don't think about it. It will be the best purchase you'll ever make! Guarantee EVERYONE who has a Onewheel will agree.
