Banga vs Moses Comet

Postby Kitemanmuc » Sun Mar 26, 2017 6:56 pm

So a friend is looking to either buy a banga or a moses comet. Can anyone compare the two? Lightwind, stability, speed?

Would be thrilled!

thanks.

Hi Dude,

Yes. I have tested both quite a bit. Video on the Comet is coming soon.

Basically the Banga is faster and easier in the really light winds as it's front wing has more area and span than the Comet. The Comet really exels for me (85kg) in winds above 12 knots. There is is really fast and the extra agility from the smaller wing makes for easier manoeuvres in the chop and smaller kites.

Both have similar pitch stability.

As the Comet does not need an Plate adapter, it weighs less than the Banga if you use that with the adapter/extension.

Traveling is obviously easier with the Comet as the Wings are removable, unlike the Bange where the bings and Fuselage are one piece.

If you were going to be 80% racing and 20% freestyle/boosting, which of the two would you choose?

Neither. They are both pure race wings. Both have very thin and fine wings. If you jump them and botch the landing you might break them.

If you are gonna jump get something like the Vorrace Wings.

Makes sense! Ok so last question. How would you compare these guys with the Levitaz Bionic?

I will let you know what the new Bionic is like by the end of April. Levitaz is sending it over for a Review Video. Comparing the old production Bionic to these would not be fair.

Are racefoils really that fragile, is racing full power at high-espeed with possible crashes not as structurally demanding as jumping?

I think that when they break without hitting a solid object there is a design or production defect. Should I stop chasing that illusive 20m height-barrier during insanely overpowerd sessions or is it that i ride a very tiny prototype wing (~350-400cm^2) that I didn't break anyting yet when landing and crashing from a decent height?

Yes. Thin high AR high span wings are more likely to crack on bad landings. A bad landing from height is not comparable to the loads when you are racing and pushing on the foil in the water. Landing hard on your foil after a big jump especially flat will put a lot of pressure near the connection between wings and fuselage. This is where you will see most cracks from jumps.
