Interesting AND scary to see at about 1 minute the DANGER of front AND rear straps on a KBHF!

Granted water starting such a long STRUT is a challenge, but this can happen for beginners on a normal set up where a front foot hook only is only out done in the safety domain by strapless!

I would like to challenge conventional wisdom of mounting front and back hooks oriented away from each other (that is _/^ ^\_ ). In this setup to safely bail out, you need either to either crawl, or pivot feet towards each other and out of the hooks.

First, in the context of our ankle safety discussion, my intuition is that crawling feet takes too long. Therefore, from now on we'll talk about pivoting your feet on you heels only. Second, I feel that rotating feet towards each other is not quite natural.

In the alternative setup with hooks oriented towards each other (that is ^\_ _/^ ), you bail out by pivoting feet away from each other. The later to me seems much more natural move ("just spread your knees").

P.S. Yes, the idea behind slingshot hooks is that they are angled up, so that your feet won't stuck even if both are originally locked in place. The purpose of this message is that I want to be super-duper safe.

There's No Way my feet are going to stick in these hooks. I bailed 10 times this evening, didn't do anything and was free.
One thing that is scary is that the kite bar could get hooked under the foothook, and start a nasty situation.

Thanks for the info. (I didn't venture yet with this setup; I have been there once with front hook and very loose back strap and, predictably, got my foot stuck in the strap;-(

To prevent bar, lines stuck under a hook, what about connecting them with string (see enclosed pic)?

Goodbye twisted ankle. Hello severe rope burn or amputated toe.

The line can be designed to withstand only certain amount of tension. I'm wearing boots, BTW.

Safest STRAPLESS! NO question! :!: Both for you AND your KBHF! :thumb:
Front foot hook ONLY mounted a few cm in front of flying stance sweet spot used with front foot angled toes forward and under hook used for water start ONLY and once up on board said F foot moved back to trim stance to provide strapless!
This also has the benefit of allowing fully strapless water start kite timing training as well by not using F foot hook at all!
You, or anyone else, simply DO NOT need any rear foot connection to the board other than strapless to learn, PERIOD!

Revhed,

Yes, I noticed that in a few sessions probably I won't need the rear one. A few times I had my rear foot behind rear hook and I was ready to go. For sure feels strapless once up.

The line between the hooks looks even scarier!!
