I was pleased to have the original AA has my first KBH. The extra volume is both good and bad. On the positive it was easy to progress from riding on the water to lift off, when first learning you will end up wind of your starting point was, riding downwind with the board in the water allowed me to get back. We have small launching landing sites in my area. Most times when landing I could leave the board flipped over (foil up) offshore to drift in while I landed the kite.
The only downside is it requires extra effort to get the AA on it's side to water start. A front foot strap or foot hook helps to keep it on its side.
I have recommended the AA to 3 other foilers in my area.
I have progressed to a shortboard (122 cm) but still keep the AA for light wind days.
It's box fits most plate systems and you can adjust the position which also helps when learning.
I would purchase it again as a first board

Thanks,
I have settled on Zeeko alloy with Shinn El Stubbo. I will probably have to borrow or find a cheap board to make learning a bit easier. Zeeko looks like a nice option to learn on and probably will never outgrow it since I am not looking for max speed or race.

That test was a while back. I think things may have moved on a bit since then.

The Shinn foil setup looks pretty good and simple.
Thin and stiff board for easy water starting. Board has 2 and 3 strap option, adjustable strut placement. Beginner wing compatible with Freeride wing. Complete with foil storage bag.

Ordered the new Shinn Jackson in the 145/90/p wing set up through my local shop after receiving really positive feedback. It'll be my first foiling effort so hoping it's a bit more learner friendly than some AND allow me good progression...The guy who wrote the review you talk about is from my local shop. He was blown away and couldn't recommend it enough. Hoping to receive the board very soon so I'll post up my beginner review...
