Racing stance V casual stance...

Yesterday I tried a foil board that was setup by a pro rider...

It was a moses Vorace.

The stance was bizarre. it was super wide and when going upwind, it was all about the back leg being straight and the front leg bent. Down wind it was not nice. Could not work it out.

I have recently got the Spotz Shark and it's a different beast to the S2. I need to widen the stance more to have control downwind.

What is your stance width on the board/foil combo you're riding?

Same stance as a surfboard. When going downwind and carving around in waves its bent knee and a bit wider than shoulder width. Relaxing while getting somewhere, upright and pretty much shoulder width.

Another benifit of strapless is the ability to change ones stance at will.
Note that it seems to feel better to go fast being wider, even much wider, but for most general flying your normal surf stance should be comfortable.

i really cant imagine riding in that racing poo stance for very long, it looks so uncomfortable

High speed - wide stance is more stable.
Low speed - narrower/casual stance is more stable and comfortable.
It is that simple

The Stance really will depend on the foil. The modern race foils need a very wide stance. My stance on the Banga and Comet is 60cm (Back strap front screw to front strap back screws).

When it comes to freeride foils, it's a totally different story. Then I have my feet very close together. This makes switching feet in manoeuvres much easier.

I think I may be wider than that. I will measure later today.

I am also sure weight (113kg) and height has an effect .
