Mast Lenght - Racing in Flat water

Why not?

Because, as cglazier wrote, you will lose agility and add weight.

It seems that between 90 and 100 cm are the chosen length for many for riding in waves and chop, a perfect compromise.

Having it longer than 100 (well, actually just longer) when not racing, gives some disadvantages that becomes more and more noticed:

It would have a higher turning radius.
You have to drag further out before you can ride (water depth).
It will be a PITA when jumping and doing tricks - the length thus swing weight increases, so if you want to tweak the foil around when in the air, the shorter strut is WAY better.

On the other hand, shorter than 90 works really bad in waves and chop according to many (and me), as you want to foil without touching down occasionally - thus the range 90 to 100 cm is what is used by almost everybody.

I can now add some experience to this topic, ive a 91 and a 101 mast from the same brand and ive tested with the same wings and board, and the main diferences i can feel are:

The 91 requires less pull to start, it has less drag, it is something you can only feel when the wind is very light, but its there.
The 91 its more responsive, you can maneuver with less effort.
The 91 its obviously better in shallow waters, i kite alot in a lagoon and its incredible how 10cm can make a difference.

The 101 feels more stable, and feels easier to move around with your feet on the board.
The 101 needs more foot input to turn and move around.
The 101 its way better in choppy waters.
The 101 its way better to angle upwind and ride with more power (angled), even in flat waters.

I did not jump with any, and probably the 91 its better for jumping also.

Looks like a normal "plate to KF" with an extra 12cm, super cool!!! I want one!!!
