Foiling Pacific Northwest location.

Postby slowboat » Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:47 pm

I have caught the foil bug and would like to spend a week foiling as much as possible this summer. Looking for a location with good winds and deep water and hopefully not too crowded. Within a day's drive of Seattle. I am considering Hood River or Squamish. Both are probably very crowded. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your input.

nitinat lake on vancouver island is a good spot. Steady dependable thermal wind. No foiling obstacles. Have to drive an hour on logging road to get there and camping only. Out there in nature adventure though.

Yup. Nitinat is the perfect choice for a foiling vacation near Seattle or Vancouver.
Search the local forums at bigwavedave.com or kiteboardbc.com for local info.

Will look into Nitinat. What is Squamish like for foiling?

Squamish is good for foiling, aside from the few random pieces of wood floating. One of the perks of foiling there is you can tack upwind into the ocean water, which is a little warmer! One of the strange foil quirks of Squamish I found was the subtle but noticeable difference in foil behaviour at the mixing line between the nearly pure ocean water and brackish river water. At least I found that the foil got a little turbulent going into the slightly cloudy cooler brackish water in the river, but that was on my spotz 2 which is sensitive to water turbulence and reynolds number I think.
