rescuing a foil board

Good tips for NOT losing your own board, but this doesn't answer the question, which was about retrieving someone else's runaway board.

A much better and safer way though, is to give your board to your friend to sit on, while you loop down to the runaway board and get it back.

This way you both will have flotation no matter what happens, and you dont risk one of the boards end up ruined on rocks when dolphining ashore by itself.

Even if the wind stops fully, you both have boards to sit on and can take care of when reaching the shoreline.

Although he wouldn't have had much flotation out of my board... A DoubleAgent deck with a Zeeko alloy foil barely floats!

I already rescued a foil board on my Foil board, just like with a twintip. I did not foil, put my back foot closer to the front foot to make sure i would not engage my foil. It was not easy and its quite dangerous, i will probably do it like you next time. To rescue a twintip is fine, and you can even engage your foil no problem.

yes, if foot pads are on top, you sail past down wind and pick it up by the front strap, just like you would on a SB or TT...

I have had this situation numerous times...

1. Sit in the water with both boards waiting for the downed rider to get to you.
2. Give them your board and you body drag downwind to catch/ride their board.
3. Run your board to the beach and body drag out to catch the floating board before it hits the beach.

After losing my board while trying to help somone in a difficult situation out on the water . i now carry a 2 feet long line i have attached. to my harness at all times . whenever im in a sketchy situation with the board i leash it. bye the way wht are peoples opinion on packing down a foil kite. i noticed that they flost pretty well and for a long period of time. last time mine dropped due to no wind i just wrapped up some of the safety release line and let it float while i slowly paddled in. offcourse there was no heavy surf or waves. also i was not very far out. im thinking this is probally the best practise in that situation instead of wasting energy packing up.

1. is unlikely to ever work, a swimmer with a sea anchor will never outdrift a sitter with a kite in the air, even more so if the latter is constantly moving his kite to keep it in the air. The downed rider should also aim towards the beach, and not further downwind, otherwise you'll end with an other problem, towing a rider, his packed kite and board towards the shore.

Sorry, I reacted also on the SB rescue. Which is also a pain in the ass, but at least it's light and doesn't want to kill you!
