Ain't it amusing, these guys complaining about Chinese rip-offs made by low wage workers? :argue: What do all the major kite brands do whenever demand grows, but to have their stuff made in third world countries? :naughty:
BTW, there is no such thing as "intellectual property" and copyright doesn't protect original creators at all. They are fraudulous concepts. Knowledge cannot be owned. Worth questioning from time to time some "values" we take for granted.
Here are some links taken at random searching these key words, for those who never thought about these notions, which is understandable because you're not encouraged to be critical at school:

Well... I understand that as an opinion of a philosophical nature. But the laws of the U.S. (and all other developed countries) very definitely make provisions for protecting your ideas so that you can profit from them. They choose to call this "intellectual property". So in that sense intellectual property is very definitely a real thing.

I know there are people that think it should not be a thing, but as it stands, it is. You can be prosecuted for violating the laws that protect inventors. And while the system is far from perfect, it serves a very good purpose. If there were no profit motive for inventing new things, there would be a helluva lot less folks spending tons of time and money inventing new things. So they give you protection for the very specific claims you make in your patent, and for a limited time. After that it becomes public domain. Not a perfect system, but not a bad one.

As far as I know China doesn't recognises intellectual property so moving your production there for maximum profits and bitching about knock offs at the same time seems ridiculous.

I guess knock off companies doesn't have access to wikipedia... probably the big firewall blocks it.

Oyer oyer all ye nit pickers
I have a general observation for ye:
In patents, you typically can't qualify just on the basis of shape or appearance.
Airfoil profiles, clever bar stools, boat hull shapes, odd utensils, cannot get protection just for their uniqueness - that's trademark territory.
So a foil builder might more easily patent a unique mechanical connection (Tuttle, kitefoil box, etc) between parts, than an overall foil design including the size and shape of the wings...
Something like a spork, though, might get a patent, if it is presented as working differently from other utensils.
That's how I remember it from the university of internet online patent discussions anyhoo

I'm pretty familiar with it having several dozen patents. It's true you can't patent something that's not novel. But then how can someone "rip you off" if what you've done has already been done before. Sure, if you think your design is art you can copyright it instead. But that's just another form of IP with its own set of rules for protection.

hahaha. I think that's what actually worrying the developed nations, that China is now among the top patent holders. The Chinese are submitting patent applications like never before.

why don't you guys focus on the chinese hydrofoils instead of slagging each other off regarding cheap knock off. Let find out how good these things are.
